A Globalized World or a Deglobalized World? — Insight
We say that globalization was and is the consequence of optimal development in different areas: technology, politics, economy, and culture. Today, we understand it as a process of communication, exchange, and interdependence on a planetary scale.
The fuel of this planetary interaction is, without a doubt, economic activity, which is made possible thanks to political, socio-cultural, and technological transformations. Thus, there is a flow of trade, technology, and finances, but also of people and knowledge.
Globalization is not the same as mundialization. Globalization tries to standardize and simplify national procedures and regulations at an international level to improve conditions for economic competitiveness, equality, security, and prosperity. In turn, it seeks to universalize the recognition of fundamental human rights.
Therefore, globalization is not limited only to economic and financial growth and development, as interactions on this large scale also affect politics and deeper aspects of society, such as culture.
This is why it is advisable to refer to everything related to money as ‘economic globalization’ or ‘internationalization of the economy’, especially because later we will explore different types of globalization.
